Breast Augmentation General Information

16 May.
Posted by foreignhaus in Beauty | No Comments

Breast augmentation is performed to increase breast fullness and volume for women with small breasts or those who have experienced a decrease in breast size due to pregnancy or weight loss. There is a wide variety of implant designs, shapes, sizes, and textures, all of which have certain advantages and disadvantages. A breast implant is basically a soft, silicone envelope with various fillers that is surgically implanted under the tissues of your chest to simulate natural breast tissue.

The breast implant used for primary breast augmentation is made of a silicone shell filled with a saline solution. Saline filled adjustable implants that are similar to the standard saline filled implants with the addition of a small connector tube through which the surgeon can adjust the size via injection. This implant requires a second incision to remove the injection port in an additional breast augmentation procedure. Under certain conditions, including breast reconstruction, breast lift and other secondary breast procedures, silicone gel implants are now approved by the FDA.

Breast augmentation may be performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. General anesthesia may be recommended for women desiring implant placement below the muscle. The breast augmentation surgery consists of making an incision, lifting the breast tissue, creating a pocket in the chest/breast area, and placing an envelope containing a soft, implant material underneath. An incision may be made either in the crease below the breast, around the Areola, or under the armpit. The implants can be placed either under the chest muscle or directly under the breasts. Placement considerations include the anatomy of your breasts, breast feeding, and your personal preference.

Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won’t necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.

The best candidates for breast augmentation are women who are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. If you’re physically healthy and realistic in your expectations, you may be a good candidate.

A breast implant is a silicone shell filled with either silicone gel or a salt-water solution known as saline.

Saline-filled implants continue to be available to breast augmentation patients on an unrestricted basis, pending further FDA review. You should ask your doctor more about the specifics of the FDA decisions.

Breast augmentation is relatively straightforward. But as with any operation, there are risks associated with surgery and specific complications associated with this procedure. The most common problem, capsular contracture, occurs if the scar or capsule around the implant begins to tighten. This squeezing of the soft implant can cause the breast to feel hard. Capsular contracture can be treated in several ways, and sometimes requires either removal or “scoring” of the scar tissue, or perhaps removal or replacement of the implant.

As with any surgical procedure, excessive bleeding following the operation may cause some swelling and pain. If excessive bleeding continues, another operation may be needed to control the bleeding and remove the accumulated blood.

Some women report that their nipples become oversensitive, undersensitive, or even numb. You may also notice small patches of numbness near your incisions. These symptoms usually disappear within time, but may be permanent in some patients.

There is no evidence that breast implants will affect fertility, pregnancy, or your ability to nurse. If, however, you have nursed a baby within the year before augmentation, you may produce milk for a few days after surgery. This may cause some discomfort, but can be treated with medication prescribed by your doctor.

Occasionally, breast implants may break or leak. Rupture can occur as a result of injury or even from the normal compression and movement of your breast and implant, causing the man-made shell to leak. If a saline-filled implant breaks, the implant will deflate in a few hours and the salt water will be harmlessly absorbed by the body.

If a break occurs in a gel-filled implant, however, one of two things may occur. If the shell breaks but the scar capsule around the implant does not, you may not detect any change. If the scar also breaks or tears, especially following extreme pressure, silicone gel may move into surrounding tissue. The gel may collect in the breast and cause a new scar to form around it, or it may migrate to another area of the body. There may be a change in the shape or firmness of the breast. Both types of breaks may require a second operation and replacement of the leaking implant. In some cases, it may not be possible to remove all of the silicone gel in the breast tissue if a rupture should occur.

While there is no evidence that breast implants cause breast cancer, they may change the way mammography is done to detect cancer. When you request a routine mammogram, be sure to go to a radiology center where technicians are experienced in the special techniques required to get a reliable x-ray of a breast with an implant. Additional views will be required. Ultrasound examinations may be of benefit in some women with implants to detect breast lumps or to evaluate the implant.

The History Of Wedding Jewellery

16 May.
Posted by Galway in Jewelry | No Comments

Jewellery is one of the oldest inventions that man has ever created. Arguably older than the wheel and definitely older than the steam engine; jewellery has adorned human beings since we first crawled out of the caves. Indeed archaeologists have found evidence of jewellery that dates back to over a hundred thousand years. These early examples of jewellery consisted of beads that had been created from shells and that were held together by a string created from animal sinew.

Although this wedding jewellery was created thousands of years ago word jewellery developed from the Latin word ‘jocale’ which meant plaything. This developed into the French word ‘jouel’ which was in use in the 13th century and this word has developed into the word we used today. The American version of the word spells it slightly differently as jewelry.

Jewellery has had played a number of different roles in society aside from adornment. Jewellery has also been a method of storing wealth and it has also been used as a commodity as well as being used as a pin to connect items of clothing. Jewellery has been used in the transfer of goods and was used in cultures that used the barter system to trade.

Jewellery has also been an important aspect of showing wealth and status within a society with the richest and most esteemed members of the society displaying jewellery. It has also been used as a method of artistic display and also found a use in some cultures and religions to ward away evil spirits. Jewellery has also been used in many situations as a method of indicating membership of a group. But despite the wide variety of different uses jewellery is most popularly used as a form of decoration of the body and has been used to adorn all parts of the body.

There is a great deal of information on jewellery that has been collated over many years. Numerous archaeologists have devoted chunks of their lives to researching jewellery and as a result there is a great amount of quality information about the roles that it has played in the world and the types of jewellery that have existed. The main reason for the interest in jewellery is that it often gives a very good insight into cultures and societies at different times throughout history. Jewellery also tends to be preserved very well and is therefore very rewarding for archaeologists and historians as they can often find complete examples of jewellery that was used in the past.

Jewellery has been found that is as old as dinosaur bones. Bracelets have been found in Russia that were created out of the tusks of a woolly mammoth. Crude necklaces have also been found that are made up of pieces of bone and teeth. There has also been examples of copper jewellery that have been dug up that date back seven thousand years. Jewellery from ancient Egyptian times is expected to date back around 5000 years and in this time gold was treasured as a rare commodity and was a signal of luxury. The reason gold became so popular is that it is relatively easy to work and as a result could be fashioned into desirable functions.

Dry Skin in Winter: How to Get Relief

15 May.
Posted by Fairfield in Beauty | No Comments

Dry skin, itchy skin! That’s what so many of our clients complain of, once winter settles in. It’s so uncomfortable! But sometimes the remedies people try are the opposite of what their winter skin needs. Fortunately, there are simple steps you can take to keep your skin hydrated and comfortable.

Would you believe that some of these steps involve your home? Consider this: The first, biggest enemy of skin hydration is dry air. Hot air blowing around in your home from heating systems usually contains no water molecules at all. So by January the drywall and furniture are completely dried out, with no more moisture to give back to the air. Your entire household is dried out! That’s why this time of year is when we see most dry skin problems.

How do you recognize this dry winter skin syndrome? You’ll see tiny dry flakes on your legs, and your skin becomes itchy - sometimes insufferably so - especially when you undress at night and the back of your arms, hips, and legs itch to the point you can draw blood by scratching. You now have… The Winter Itch!

So what can you do? First step - everything you can do to increase humidity in your household air.

* Lower your home’s temperature, because cooler air can hold more water molecules. I recommend 66 degrees at night and around 70 degrees during the daytime - slightly higher (72) if you have children.

* If you have a choice, use radiant or baseboard heating instead of forced air.

* Humidifiers are helpful. Be sure to use additives in the water to retard bacterial and mold growth. (Mold spores can trigger allergies, and some are even dangerous.)

Next, help your skin retain moisture. As the household air tips above indicate, your skin can take moisture from the air - and lose it to dry air, as well. Skin has a protective barrier of dead cells that slow down this moisture loss. So you’ll want to take very good care of this protective layer. This is where so many people get into trouble with winter skin care. When skin starts flaking, it’s easy to think that the flaky skin is the problem itself, and try to wash or exfoliate it. And then it’s easy to end up with seriously dry, itchy skin!

You see, the second biggest enemy of skin hydration is over-washing. The skin’s barrier against water loss is easily removed by frequent or vigorous washing - especially with harsher soaps, loofahs, and other scrubbers. Removing the protective layer exposes the next layer of skin. This layer is alive and easily inflamed when exposed to dry air. And it’s inflammation that triggers the itch sensation. Scratching the itch further disrupts your skin’s natural barrier - so infection can occur, and conditions such as eczema and psoriasis will be exacerbated. Here are 7 bathing tips to keep from washing away your skin’s moisture protection.

* Bathe as infrequently as you can get away with, certainly no more than once daily. If you go to the gym, a simple rinse-off is sufficient for the non-odor areas.

* Keep your bath or shower brief.

* Avoid physical scrubbing agents completely. This means NO washcloth, except for odor areas.

* Avoid hot water; use warm instead.

* Soaps should be of the moisturizing variety (like Dove, Caress, Tone). Use sparingly.

* Pat dry with the towel - no scrubbing dry.

* Immediately after patting dry, apply a generous amount of moisturizing lotion to your skin, especially where most exposure to ambient air occurs - your arms and legs. Then apply a facial moisturizing cream.

Then, while your skin still feels moist, be sure to put on adequate clothing that covers up air-exposed areas as much as possible, to retain your skin’s water. Apply more of your moisturizing, hydrating skin care products throughout the day. You cannot overdo it! And speaking of products - over-the-counter moisturizing lotions and creams are much better than none at all. However, recent developments in hydrating products incorporate hyaluronic acid and green tea, which both attract and hold water. These formulations are anti-inflammatory, and they are available in medical offices.

Here’s the basic moisturizer rule: Whenever you are tempted (or driven) to scratch - that is when you need a moisturizing lotion or cream. You’ll soon know how often your skin needs to have additional moisturizing help to prevent these episodes of severe itching.

Try these methods for dry skin relief. Your skin will thank you!

Modern Day Pregnancy Clothing Is Stylish

15 May.
Posted by ergo_items in Clothing | No Comments

When women find out they are expecting a baby, they naturally start considering what type of pregnancy clothing to buy. In the first trimester of pregnancy, they might not gain weight or begin to expand in the midriff and might be able to wear regular clothing for many weeks into the pregnancy. They will want to wear pregnancy clothes that are stylish though throughout the pregnancy.

Most women will want to change into pregnancy clothing when they are uncomfortable. Many women experience a tightening of jeans almost from the moment of conception. This is due to a mental perception of their condition and does not mean that the clothes are actually tight. A woman might feel that she is enormous by her third month, and is totally despondent by her seventh month of pregnancy. These feelings are due to hormonal changes that can cause some women to have difficult pregnancies if a physician does not treat it.

Women that have been trying to conceive a child for years might feel that they need to rush out and buy all sorts of pregnancy clothing. They are mentally ready to get into character and welcome the clothing change with great jubilation. Women that are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, might hide their conditions for many weeks and don pregnancy clothing that is oversized and meant to hide the growing thickness in their midriff.

There are many stylish choices in pregnancy clothing that can be bought at major department stores. Women can select from clothing sized to meet the growing needs of the baby at any point in the pregnancy. Some people find that wearing pregnancy clothing allows them to take their pregnancy more serious. They will feel more inclined to follow the medical advice of their physician and take prenatal vitamins with a renewed sense of pride and purpose.

There are other choices in pregnancy clothing that can be worn after the baby is delivered. Women will appreciate the extra room that pregnancy clothing provides in the upper portion of the chest because her breasts will become swollen with milk shortly after delivery. Some maternity clothing styles will accommodate breastfeeding and are designed with built-in nursing bras that ensure a degree of privacy is maintained during every feeding.

Pregnancy clothing is easy to identify in a department store and will usually be surrounded with all types of accessories that will be useful while a woman go through the long months of pregnancy. The extended paneling that is included in maternity pants is made of a stretchable material that will expand outward as the child grows inside. A woman might choose accessories such as balm to lubricate the nipples and these solutions can help to moisture the stomach in an effort to prevent stretch marks.

Choosing the Right Hair Brush for Healthy Hair

09 May.
Posted by hairfinity in Beauty | No Comments

Hair is one of the most revered parts of the body. Having shiny, smooth and healthy hair shows one is taking good care of her skin and body. However, for most this is not an easy undertaking because they are unaware of the damages done to their hair when they use different hair products such as brushes. That’s why it’s important to choose the right type of hairbrush and clean it regularly to promote strong and healthy hair. In addition, taking supplements such as collagen and hyaluronic acid can help strengthen hair from inside out.

Type of Hair Brush

Brushing hair is vital to keeping it manageable and tangle-free. In addition, it stimulates good blood circulation so that essential nutrients are carried to the hair follicles for hair growth. The best type of hairbrush to use is a natural bristle like boar’s hair. The bristles of boar’s brush are like the keratin strands of hair that absorbs oil and dirt. Furthermore, the tips of the bristles are rounded so they lightly massage your scalp to promote blood circulation. A type of boar’s brush is Kent hairbrush. It’s available in the market but stray from nylon Kent brushes because these are rougher and sharper than boar’s brush. Using nylon brushes could inflame and cause damage to the hair and scalp.

Right Method of Brushing Hair

Having the right brush is not the only requirement to achieve strong and healthy hair. You must also know the right way to brush your hair to stimulate blood circulation to the scalp and also to prevent accumulation of oil and dirt. You can avoid accretion of dirt on your scalp when you brush your hair regularly. It is best to brush twice a day and brush only when your hair is dry. This is to obviate the breakage of your strands. Brush for about 3 minutes if you have short hair and 5 minutes if longer.

One way to brush your hair is to bend over with your head towards the floor. There should be a forward brushing motion from the back of the neck to the scalp. After which you can brush using a downward motion - from the top of the head down to the neck.

Cleaning Hair Brush

If your hairbrush is not cleaned on a regular basis, dirt can accumulate over time that could lead to depositing dirt back to your scalp. It is best to clean it everyday. It’s better to have two brushes because you can alternate their usage. The way to clean a brush is to rinse it first, then use a shampoo to remove the dirt. Scrub the bristles by using your hand in a back and forth motion. Afterwards you may dry it with a towel. Wait for it to dry and usually it dries completely after 24 hours.

Now you know the simple secret to having that healthy lush hair. All you have to do is choose the right brush, know the right way of brushing and clean your brushes regularly. You may also want to try other ways of promoting healthy hair and one is taking Super Collagen + C, which can be taken orally along with hyaluronic acid. These supplements provide collagen and other nutrients not just for strong hair but for healthy skin and joints as well.

Living with Your Diet

08 May.
Posted by JACKIE in Beauty | No Comments

Recently, I was reading about a diet plan where you throw everything out of your pantry.

Although this sounds like great news for the supermarkets, over the short-term, this leaves very few choices for you to actually eat.

Can you exist on salad, topped with Flax seed oil dressing, for the rest of your life?

People believe that they must pay penance for their eating sins. Dietary and exercise torture seems to be good for the conscience and the prescription of the day.

How else can we explain “off the wall” diets and “extreme” exercise programs?

Whatever happened to eating in moderation and using common sense? Even if you are eating a “diet cookie,” you can’t have all you want.

If you travel, or eat in restaurants frequently, you have to eat in moderation, space your meals out, carry healthy snacks, or visit the salad bar at your local supermarket.
There are plenty of good choices, and it won’t cost you an “arm and a leg.”

When you eat, you shouldn’t feel stuffed after a meal.
This slows down your digestive system, similar to the principle of a “log jam,” and you may not eat for six hours or more, depending upon the amount of food consumed.

This is a time when your body is crying to go for a walk.
You should feel comfortably full every time you leave the table, and you should eat five or six times a day; three moderately-sized meals and at least two healthy snacks.

Sorry to say, diet cookies are rarely healthy. If they were of nutritional value, I would live on the Chocolate Chip Cookie Diet.

Now back to reality, if you love dessert, you can’t give it up for life. Depending on the state your health, you may have to seriously cut back.

Therefore, consult with your family doctor, get a diet that makes sense, and please walk, swim, or exercise regularly.

How to find the right Yoga teacher?

08 May.
Posted by JACKIE in Beauty | No Comments

I am often asked by beginners about how to evaluate a Yoga Teacher?

The following is the “CALM check list.” These factors are basic criteria that your Yoga Instructor should meet before you continue on to a second Yoga class.

CALM gets it name from four main factors: Communication, Assist, Listen, and Modification. For the right Yoga teacher, you should be answering with a “yes” to all questions.

Secrets of Teaching Yoga

Posted by JACKIE in Beauty | No Comments

What you are about to read applies to teaching, in general. In fact, we are all teachers, to some degree. You teach your friends, co-workers, strangers and family members on a daily basis.

The example you set teaches someone in some way. Whether you are a positive role model, or not, people, and the world, react to you. Sorry to say, you have more responsibility than you thought possible.

Do you realize that when you hurt one person, it will set a chain of events into motion? Even worse is that, most violent acts were stimulated by smaller, seemingly unimportant events.

When you talk to your students, always show mutual respect. Don’t take advantage of your position as a Yoga teacher to temporarily feed your ego.

The first thing a Yoga teacher should instill, in his or her students, is self-motivation. The serious Yoga student must be a self starter. This is a person who practices Yoga at home, as well as in class. They don’t depend on their friends to come to class, and they show up like “clockwork.”

How can you make your Yoga students become self motivators?

You must show up to class early, enthused, and energized. Encourage all of your students and sincerely praise their achievements. The truth is, Yoga is like music, you can teach a student the basics, but to be a master teacher, you want to stir the creativity from within.

When your students become creators, you can help them refine their Yoga practice and watch them become self motivators.

A truly great teacher will produce teachers, who surpass him or her; and isn’t “passing the torch” what it’s all about?

Cultivate a Positive Mind-Set Through Meditation

08 May.
Posted by JACKIE in Beauty | No Comments

You have the ability to create your own mind-set. Whether your attitude is positive or negative, is up to you. The ability to change your environment, circle of friends, and attitude, is within your control.

Just like a computer absorbs raw data, so does your mind.
Within your mind a culture, within itself, has grown. Many people feel like they have no control of their own mind, because this culture has become negative. The negativity is a result of past experiences, being in a negative environment, or being under the influence of unconstructive ideas.

Similar to a computer virus, you have to identify it quickly, to avoid letting it spread within your mind. You can also pass this virus of negative thinking to people around you. As a result you are spreading negative energy around, like “weeds in a field.”

Much like a farmer, you cultivate too. The energy in your mind is the crop, and it is up to you, whether it is weeds or wheat. If you have a farm and let a field take care of itself; you will be lucky to have any kind of a crop, from it. This is the same with the energy within your mind.

You have to option to pick quality seeds: Information, in the form of books, eBooks, DVD’s, CD’s, lectures, courses, workshops, and seminars. This is learning, for the sake of self-improvement, and it results in a positive mind-set.

However, your work is not finished, because you must still reinforce the lessons, and keep everything in a focused order. This might be compared to fertilizing, watering, and “weeding the mind.” You have to work at it continually or the weeds will grow back. This, my friend, is meditation, and one of the reasons why we meditate, in the first place.

Meditation is controlled focus on an object, thought, or task without judgment. This process makes it possible to look at all situations objectively. You can find solutions, turn negative situations into positive learning experiences, and create your own positive mindset. As a result of this you will make new friends, reach goals, handle problems easily, and develop an indomitable spirit.

Remember the last time you made an accomplishment. That feeling, and that ability, are within all of us. It is a formula for success, but you have to take action. Action is something that the vast majority of people will never take.
Learn to separate yourself from “the pack,” through education, meditation, and action.

Confessions of a Yoga Teacher

08 May.
Posted by JACKIE in Beauty | No Comments

The following are questions that Yoga teachers still need to answer, despite overwhelming evidence that Yoga is “the mother of all health maintenance systems.” Mainstream thought is finally catching up, with the progress Yoga is making, but it has taken 5,000 years for us to get this far.

Seriously, How Can Yoga Make You Lose Weight?

Finally, some of the “Yoga and Weight Loss” studies have come in, and even, a little bit of Yoga is much better, than none, for weight control, but there are a number of reasons why. Yoga is a lifestyle change that includes a safe diet; exercise, adjusting posture, breathing, and a whole lot more. Most of the Yoga practitioners, I know, consume more water, eat more moderately, and take more care of their bodies, in comparison to the many who don’t want to leave the couch.

Aren’t you supposed to jump up and down for at least a half-hour per day to exercise enough to lose weight?

Maybe the masses have been “brain washed” into thinking that you have to feel the pain, suffer, starve, and have a near death experience, to lose weight. Depending upon your size, the average person, in a moderate Hatha yoga class, is burning in the neighborhood of 200 calories per hour.
There are Vinyasa Yoga classes, that will burn more calories, with much more flowing and active movement. Just remember, that your safety is top priority, and you will be fine.

There are also Yoga classes where you can feel the pain, heat, and suffer. This is great for those who feel the need to “pay for their sins.” Maybe this is considered “penance,” for years of consuming excessive pizza, burgers, and buffets. If you feel you must suffer, you may even find a Yoga teacher who missed his or her calling as an interrogator.

If you search hard enough, you will find a Yoga class for every niche. More moderate Yoga classes look easy on the outside of the class, but I have seen many people find them to be a challenge, on the inside of the class. The real benefit of steady Yoga practice is training for longevity.
Long-term practice will yield optimum health benefits in mind, body, and spirit.

Couldn’t you just invent a Yoga pill?

This has been the ultimate dream of “couch potatoes,” but every time a weight loss pill comes out, there is a down side. Just look at the health problems that resulted from fen phen and ephedra. This should wake people up, but someone will always put their life at risk, no matter how many warning labels are printed.

In summary, the benefits of Yoga practice have always existed, through steady and safe practice. Seek out a safe teacher and go from there. Never push yourself to the point of strain. Moderation is key, so it is wise to avoid extremes.
