Is Rhinoplasty For You?

28 Feb.

If you have problems with your nose or would just like a new one it is a good idea to have some knowledge of rhinoplasty before and after procedures and effects. Nose surgery can be undertaken at a hospital or clinic ward but it is more likely that when you have the procedure it will be as an outpatient.

Depending on the extent of the work and on the person undertaking it, you will require either a local or a general anaesthetic. Many surgeons now prefer to undertake nose surgery with a local anaesthetic, where the patient is awake, and only use a general, where the patient is asleep, if complications might be anticipated.

With rhinoplasty before and after, unless your nose job is unusually complicated you can expect the surgery to take somewhere between one and two hours obviously if the surgeon settles on a general anaesthetic then you will need more recovery time after the procedure.

Rhinoplasty before and after refers to what you can expect during surgery and some information about the post operative state. The process itself involves separating the skin from the bone and cartilage that lie beneath it. Once these things have been sculpted and reset into place then the skin is drawn back over them this is known as the open method, but this method is rapidly falling out of favour due to the rise of the new method, which makes the rhinoplasty more exact.

The opposite, or closed procedure almost always takes place under a local anaesthetic to give both the doctor and the patient the time to talk over the routine as the surgery is being undertaken. The closed procedure involves removing cartilage, perhaps from behind the ear, then an incision is made where the new cartilage needs to go. This is a far more accurate procedure than then one previously mentioned.

The doctor may very well put a splint on your nose once the surgery is complete, as this will help the nose to stay in shape. Sometimes the splint, along with some nasal packs may also be inserted into the nostril.

When you think about rhinoplasty before and after the most common question that people want answered is how long will it be before they are back to normal. This varies from person to person as not everyone heals at the same rate, you can certainly expect to have a puffy face and a headache for the next few days. Some bleeding is common with rhinoplasty, any stitches will be removed within a few days, but you can expect to wait a couple of weeks for the swelling and bruising to go down.
