Why Gamblers Lose

23 Apr.
Posted by jimmycox in Casino | No Comments

There is only one way of finding out how to win at any type of gambling pastime. That is to learn why gamblers lose. That’s easily answered: They lose when they let themselves get hooked on the short end of any proposition, provided they stay with it long enough, which they usually do.

Looking at it from the opposite viewpoint, the gambler who can latch onto the long end of a proposition and stay with it should wind up a winner. In fact many gamblers do though their procedure is usually different from those who continually find themselves on the losing end.

Consider this point: When two players start matching money along with wits against each other there is bound to be a winner as well as a loser. You can argue, of course, that expenses may be involved, including license fees, taxes and such where gambling casinos are involved. But that’s to be expected in any business.
The talented night club performer who helps brighten the Las Vegas strip has to pay fees to` booking agents, managers and the public relations men who helped build him up to a high-priced attraction. Life itself is a gamble and you have to pay for the privilege of getting the most out of it. So that disposes of the philosophical side.

Now for the more practical phase. Somebody must make money from gambling or there wouldn’t be so many people in the business and staying in it. Some purists might argue that they aren’t gambling if they are in business. But if you ask any man about his business, he will tell you that it’s a gamble. There’s no business like show business; and there’s no gambling like that found in the gambling business.

This brings us to what might be classed as the usual approach. Many people get enjoyment out of gambling just as they do when they go to a restaurant or a theater. Certainly, it costs more to eat out than it does at home and theater tickets often run quite high.

But a good meal is worth it - and so is a good show - provided neither costs more than the budget should allow. By the same token, a fling at the gambling table can be charged to pleasure, entertainment, experience, or what-have-you, as long as it is kept strictly within budgetary limits. Usually, such expenditure is part of a vacation fund, as gaming devices are permitted only in certain states, as Nevada, or certain countries, such as Cuba and other Caribbean republics, as well as some European areas like the Principality of Monaco, where the famous Monte Carlo casino is located.

Words to the Wise

While players have a right to fair treatment at every recognized gambling casino, they should never expect to beat the business, particularly in the long run. Some system players have survived over many years, while others claim to have shown profits over lesser periods. But they have actually done so at the expense, not of the gambling houses, but other players whose systems have fluked. Those losers far outnumber the winners.

Another thing: Don’t expect all casinos to offer the same odds. Roulette is the great game in Europe because it gives a better break than the American version. In America, the predominating games are Craps and Black Jack for that very same reason. But rules and percentages vary. You can go shopping for the best price around gambling casinos, just as you would when buying food at a supermarket.

Just as some restaurants are known as “clip joints” and certain theaters may overprice their shows, it is possible to find “gyp joints” among gambling houses, particularly in some of the Caribbean countries. If the reader comes to the conclusion that it is smarter not to play such games at all and decides to limit his knowledge to reading about them he can be sure that he will have gotten his money’s worth.

Don’t be Tricked by Slot Machines!

23 Apr.

The “One-armed Bandit,” as the modern slot machine is now known, is without a doubt the most brazen, flagrant device ever produced to swindle the general public. From its very concept, this contrivance was geared to one purpose, that of acquiring the customer’s money and at the same time providing ironclad protection for the owner.

The Modern Machine

The One-armed Bandit today has three wheels bearing the symbols long familiar to the deluded American public: Cherries, Oranges, Plums, Bells, Bars - and last but not least - Lemons.

Contrary to a somewhat common error, Lemons do not appear on all three wheels. It is impossible to hit three Lemons. The same applies to Cherries. Both these fruits are found on two wheels only; Cherries on the first and second; Lemons on the first and third. It is also possible to win even when a Lemon shows, a piece of information which may surprise some readers.

Here’s what happens when the player drops his nickel and shakes hands with the One-armed Bandit:
A pull of the lever, the wheels spin and finally come to a jolty stop in one, two, three fashion, showing any of a great variety of combinations - three symbols in a row. The payoff combinations are as follows:

Two Cherries with Bar, Orange or Plum .. 3 coins
Two Cherries with Bell or Lemon 5 coins
Three Oranges 10 coins
Three Plums 14 coins
Three Bells 18 coins
Three Bars Jackpot plus 20 coins

These payoffs vary, some machines giving 2, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 instead of the figures named. Such machines presumably yield more “hits” to compensate for the smaller “payoffs.” But nothing should be presumed where these machines are concerned and the only persons actually compensated in the long run are the operators.

The coins land in a return slot at the bottom of the machine and this pocket is also large enough to receive the Jackpot when the Bars are hit.

The Jackpot

The Jackpot is visible through non-breakable glass at the front of the machine and, when filled, it contains about 80 coins, though this, too, can vary with different makes. For round figures, you may hit as high as $5 on a nickel machine, $10 on a dime machine, $25 on a quarter machine, $50 on a half dollar machine and $100 on a silver dollar machine. These totals, of course, include the 20 coins that the Bars deliver as their own hit.

Jackpots were added to the original Bar payoff and they are “fed” by coins put in by the players. This was a bad feature, originally, because players ignored the machine after a Jackpot was hit, as they could see that it had been emptied. This produced the quandary: Who would fill the Jackpot if the players wouldn’t?
The answer was solved by dividing the Jackpot into two compartments, the Jackpot and the Reserve Jackpot. After a Jackpot is hit, the next coin played automatically causes the Reserve to dump into the Jackpot.

A beginner who has never hit a Jackpot often thinks it includes the Reserve, as a bar of metal on the front of the machine hides the division between the two compartments. But when he sees he gets only the lower half when three Bars hit, he is soon initiated into that phase of the thing.

Naturally, the dropping of the Reserve gives the next Jackpot a good start and while some players are leery, thinking they haven’t much chance of another Jackpot hitting soon, others are glad to see a machine that has hit at all and therefore are happy to play it.

Play Until You Lose

The habitual slot machine player has only one system. That is, to pour his coins into the machine until they are all gone. The lure of the Jackpot simply adds to the futile, incessant craving in which the player goes wild every time he hits for ten or more but never counts the cash that he feeds into the machine.

Players beware - there are very few ways these machines can be beaten.

Discover The History Of Dice

22 Apr.
Posted by jimmycox in Casino | No Comments

It’s been said that “the best throw at dice is to throw them away.” That could or could not be true depending upon how you play the game. It’s quite true that there is little if any actual skill in shooting craps. It’s a game of pure chance. But there is something to be said for knowing the odds for various bets, and not betting when those odds are ridiculously against you.

Dice were probably evolved from knucklebones, and knucklebones from odd-shaped pebbles. The word “probably” is used because those small cubes of bone, ivory, wood or plastic have a contradictory, but romantic, history.

One thing seems certain, knucklebones or dice go back nearly to the creation of man. And wherever dice have been found, whether in the- tombs of ancient Egypt, of classic Greece, or of the far East, they differ in no material respect from those in use today. Of course, they were not always simple spotted cubes. Some were elongated or octagonal or with as many as fourteen flat surfaces. But all the surfaces had their different values and were counted, like dice.

It is almost impossible to trace clearly the development of dice as distinguished from knucklebones. In the beginning, dice had anywhere from six to twenty flat sides of different values, and knucklebones had only four. Ancient writers confused the two games, and rarely agreed on the origin of either. It is certain, however, that both were played in times before written records were kept.

Sophocles tells us that a Greek invented the game of dice, and taught it to his countrymen during the seige of Troy. Herodotus, the so-called “Father of History,” says the Lydians invented knucklebones, dice and all other games except chess. Then, too, dicing is credited with being an old Indian game.

EARLY EGYPTIAN AND ROMAN DICE
Early examples can be found in the Smithsonian Institute. Dice similar to those used today have been used from earliest times, being found among ancient relics in Egypt, the Mediterranean and the Far East. Dice were pretty crude in the beginning.

EVERYBODY’S GAME
No matter who started it, we know that dicing was a popular form of amusement even in ancient times. In Greece, the upper classes especially played the game as part of their drinking banquets. During the luxurious days of the empire, the Romans were passionate gamblers, casting their dice of crystal inlaid with gold from dice-beakers of carved ivory. Among the gamblers of the day were such big names as Augustus, Mark Antony and Nero.

Even then, there were those who wrote books on dicing, built special rooms in their palaces for it, sat up all night playing it, and those who cheated at it. Society soon took to the game, much as ours did with “Monopoly” and “Canasta” years back. Professional gamblers were common. Loaded dice came into being. Some are preserved in museums and private homes which became the resorts of gamblers. Special laws followed naturally, such as a person who allowed gambling in his home could not bring suit against another even if cheated.

Next the barbarians discovered the game of dice, possibly taught to them by their Roman conquerors. They loved it so much that, after losing their material possessions, they would gamble their personal freedom. During the Middle Ages, both knights and their ladies played dice. In France, dicing schools and clubs were formed, despite the legislation which tried to abolish the game. Soon India, the Far East, and a good part of the entire world held dicing in common.

Today dice are the crucial part of many games. An understanding of some of the history of dice just makes the games a lot more interesting!

Roll That Lucky Dice Like A Pro

12 Apr.
Posted by pauledison in Casino | No Comments

Craps or Dice Craps the name is enough to put you off which is probably why most people don’t want to play it! Yet the odds on craps will favour the player so why don’t gamblers on this side of the pond want to play the game, is it because the love giving their hard earned dosh to the casino’s.

Maybe they don’t know how to play it and worse still are afraid to ask. Don’t worry we are about to show you how.

Not sure what the crap table looks like see the picture below. There are 36 possible combinations that can be made from rolling two dice, there is only one way to roll a two, two ways to roll a three, three ways to roll a four, four ways to roll a five, five ways to roll a six, six ways to roll a seven, then you start to reverse this sequence for the higher numbers 5 ways to roll an 8, 4 ways to roll a 9, 3 ways to roll a 10, 2 ways to roll 11 and only one way to roll 12.

The Shooter
The Player rolling the dice is the Shooter he will throw a pair of dice from one end of a craps table to the other end (back wall) thus establishing a ‘point number’ this is where the term ‘Making the point’ comes in this is done by throwing a 4,5,6,8,9 or 10 when a point is made a white marker known as the puck is placed on the table at the relevant number. This number then becomes the point of the game the shooter will carry on trying to roll that same point number, there is no time limit.

Betting
Players bet on what number they think the shooter will roll and payouts are based on odds calculated on that happening against a 7 being rolled.
Roll a 7 and the game is over and the dice are moved or passed on to the next player who then becomes the stickman, you will also hear the casino declare “7 out new shooter”.

Although there are lots of side bet possibilities the initially betting involves just two bets the Pass Line and the Don’t Pass Line.

PASS LINE - DON’T PASS LINE
This is your basic craps bet, paying even money the house edge here is minimal at 1.4% Place your bet before the first roll of the dice in a new game if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 you win immediately, you lose immediately if a 2, 3 or 12 are rolled and of course if any other number is rolled 4,5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 these become the point number.

Once the point number is set you win, if the shooter rolls the point number before he rolls a 7 you win, should he roll a 7 before the point number you lose.

The reversal of the pass line bet the Don’t Pass Line, should the shooter roll 3 or 12 you win, roll 7 or 11 you lose and if the 2 is rolled you have a ‘push’ and your bet is returned. Should the shooter make his point, the don’t pass line bet wins if he rolls a 7 before making the point again.

These two bets kick off the game but after this is where the game of craps takes on a whole new persona.

COME - DON’T COME
It’s actually the same bet as the pass line but is made after the point has been made and pays even money. You can make a Come bet before any roll of the die and you win if the shooter rolls 7 or 11 and lose if 2, 3 or 12, any other number becomes the ‘come point’ and you win if the shooter rolls that number before rolling a 7.

Like the don’t pass line bet the Don’t Come bet is a reversal of the come bet you win if the roll is 3 or 12 lose if 7 or 11 a 2 is a ‘push’ and your bet is returned and once the ‘come point’ is made you win if a 7 is rolled and lose if the come point is rolled.

PLACE BET
This is a bet made on any of the point numbers which are 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 they are paid at house odds. You can make or remove these bets anytime before a shooter rolls and you can place these bets to lose, that is you are betting a 7 will be rolled before the placed number is thrown. e.g. you bet a placed ‘no 8′ this means you bet 7 will be rolled before an 8. Be aware the chances of this happening are quite high so the odds are low and you have to pay the ‘vig’ this is the house commission and is usually 5%.

FIELD BET
The field box is in the middle of the table and most player make this bet, your betting that numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 will be thrown next, the odds are even except for the two and twelve which varies but can be 3/1 in some casino’s. With this bet you lose if the shooter throws a 5, 6, 8 or 7.

PROPOSITION BET
A one roll bet with names to lure you to make them such as ‘any craps’ ‘horn’, ‘hardway”,
Any Craps - the bet is that the next roll will be a 2, 3, or 12

Horn - the next roll will be 2, 3, 11 or 12

Hardway - the bet here is that the shooter will roll 4, 6, 8, or 10 as pairs of numbers before rolling a 7 or a point is made by rolling two different values. for instance here you betting that an hard 8 a pair of 4’s are going to be rolled before a 7 or 5 & 3 or 6 & 2

Things to watch out for at the craps table, avoid side bets the odds are usually in favour of the house and in fact this is where the house makes most of it’s money.

Betting the 7 the house makes sure it has the edge here paying out at 4/1 when the real odds are more like 5/1.

Betting on 11 pay out is good but the house gives itself a good edge.

The horn a fourway bet sounds a good bet but the odds are again in favour of the house.

Any craps used by some as an insurance bet but once again it favours the house.

Hardways a good fun bet but the odds are stacked against you.

Superstitious Crap players are the most superstitious of the lot here are some things to watch out for.

1. It’s unlucky to say Seven players prefer to say ‘It’ such as I hope IT doesn’t come up.

2. If the dice bounce off the table, the next roll will almost certainly be a 7, so you’ll see lots of players remove their bets if the dice leave the table. They will also be heard to shout same dice so a new set won’t be brought out.

3. Bad luck if the dice hit’s anyone’s hand (fortunately this can’t happen online.)

4. Lady crap players who are rolling for the first time will always have a hot roll whereas men won’t

5. It’s poor form to touch the shooter when he’s having a roll (can’t do this one online either.)

6. It’s bad luck if the stick man pushes the dice to you with a 7 showing (stickmen will avoid doing this.)

7. If a player places new money on the table during a roll and the dice hit it the next roll will be a 7 once again you can’t do this online.

The Secrets Of Free Money From Online Casinos

Posted by overt595 in Casino | No Comments

The business of online casinos is hotting up, with more and more traditional casinos taking their gambling and betting online. This presents an opportunity for some easy money for any web surfer who can take the time to sign up to an Internet gambling site.

As an incentive to get us to gamble on their site, casinos are now offering welcome bonuses. As competition gets fiercer, these welcome bonuses are getting larger, and casinos are offering more incentives to encourage users to signup.

The art of scalping - of signing up, taking the bonus, and running - has risen alongside the size of the bonuses. Casinos have fought back by placing restrictions on new users. For example you cannot withdraw your bonus without placing a certain number of wagers, or you need to place at least one wager worth X dollars.

Scalpers retaliated by putting their bonus money into games with the lowest house edge, like Craps, Baccarat, Roulette, and Blackjack. Casinos again stepped up the ante by placing minimum wager restrictions on these games, or lengthening the time period between a new user signing up and being able to withdraw their funds.

So, there is a lot of bonus money available, but the casinos are making it as difficult as they can to get your hands on that cash. Scalpers and canny gamblers have responded by literally beating the casinos at their own game.

Many online gambling sites will offer enough of a signup bonus to make it easy to start playing some games - without having to risk your own money. Blackjack in particular offers the best odds.

The goal here is not to aim for large wins - rather, by using the signup bonus to match the online gambing site’s minimum wager requirements, you can slightly increase your pile of cash. After only a few games, you should be able to withdraw your signup bonus money - with interest! Even if you lose, the amounts being wagered are small, and after all - it’s not actually your money you are risking.

Having established some small wins and familiarised yourself with the game, you can either cash out, or for the more stringent online casinos (usually those with the largest signup bonus) you can move on to another game with relatively low odds - Roulette.

By using the online casinos signup bonus in this way, you can easily match their rules, enabling you to withdraw the cash to your own bank account. Beating the online casinos at their own game is particularly satisfying - especially when it’s not your own money you are betting!

Beat The US Gambling Restrictions With Online Casino Bonuses

US residents are finding it increasingly difficult to take advantage of the many online casinos that are springing up across the Internet. Although it is legal in many states to gamble online, the US government is cracking down on making deposits into online casino accounts.

The anti-gambling laws passed by the US government in recent years have made previously legal gambling sites either illegal, or difficult to sign up with. The laws are not designed to protect US consumers from the ‘evils of gambling’. One look at the gambling hotspots in Nevada and Atlantic City should make it clear that not only is gambling acceptable in the US - it is also immensely profitable.

And therein lies the issue - gambling is a large, profitable business, and the large casinos in the US are seeking to protect their profit margins. Online casinos have much lower operating costs than a physical casino, and so are able to offer better odds and higher payouts. The popularity of online gambling sites is starting to pose a serious threat to the dominance of the large, established players in the US gambling industry.

One way to circumvent these restrictions on deposits is to take advantage of the signup bonuses online casinos offer. In an ongoing effort to secure more users, online casinos are offering larger and larger bonuses for all new users who sign up and start gambling with them.

Once you register with an online casino, they will deposit your signup bonus in your account. You won’t be able to withdraw this straight away - the online gambling sites not only want to attract new signups, they want those users to play.

By putting up small wagers on games with good odds, like Craps, Blackjack, and Roulette, you can quickly and easily start to build up a good pot. Remember that the odds are much better than they would be with a traditional casino - because of this you should easily be able to start quickly making a profit.

Having established a playing pattern and placed a number of wagers, you can then choose to either cash out, or once you have established a substantial pot, taking on some of the higher risk (and larger payout) games. By using the signup bonuses from online gambling sites in this way you can circumvent the US restrictions on depositing funds into overseas gambling accounts - without any personal financial risk!
