What To Wear When Flying On A Holiday Abroad

06 May.
Posted by Elmclose99 in Air Travel | No Comments

Flying for long hours can get really uncomfortable. Knowing the right kind of clothing to wear can really help you relax for the long journey ahead of you. You do not want to wear shoes that are going to be confining because feet normally swell during the flight. It is also important to remember to stay hydrated because no matter what you wear if you are not hydrated flying may be still be uncomfortable.

The average person going on a business flight will travel for approximately four hours or about a one hour meeting. If you are going on a business trip it is recommended that you fly into town the night before so that you will not be in your business attire that can be restraining.

Being restricted for long periods of time can make you cranky and very uncomfortable. The best solution is to allow your self enough time to change before the meeting or fly in the night before. Most business clothes will fit into a carry on so you will not have to check anything and worry about losing your luggage. It is not recommended to fly in a business unless there is not other option available to you.

Vacationers will have an easier time while travelling. Casual clothes are the best clothes to wear for long flights. It is important to remember that on really long flights you most likely want to wear cotton or soft clothing. Jeans are good if they are loose and not confining or too tight. You will want to breathe easy for the whole flight. Sweats or other soft fabrics are the best because they breathe easily and will not confine any movements that are already difficult on a plane. Shirts also need to be loose so that you can move freely. Do not over dress for the plane ride. Layering your clothing, so that you will not have to carry as much, can be a problem even though most planes have air conditioning. You do not want to make your self too hot on the plane.

Shoes are very important when flying. Wearing the right shoes can make the trip more comfortable. You will not want to wear high heels because of the swelling that can occur on a plane may not allow you to place them back on your feet. That is why wearing sneakers or tennis shoes are the most recommended pair of shoes. Sandals will give allow room for swelling, but your toes may not appreciate everyone stepping on them. Many people are in a hurry to get off the plane so many do not pay attention to where they are stepping.

Clothes that are comfortable to wear at home are probably going to be the best choice to wear for a long flight. Remember no body looks that good on a long trip so do not worry too much about you appearance. You will want to go for what is most comfortable.

How To Travel With Your Sports Equipment With The New Rules Since 911

If you are what some may consider to be a rabid sports fan then you may be trying to work sports into your next vacation. If you are planning on enjoying a game of basketball or football, it is more than likely that you might want to bring along some stuff with you. Did you ever know that there are restrictions to what you can bring, especially since 911? If you are trying to plan on bringing stuff like sporting equipment with you, you should be ready for what the rules are for what you can bring.

Golf is an activity that many travelers like to participate in and many golfers enjoy playing on different courses they find when they travel. If you are trying to travel with your set of golf clubs, you will more than likely need to check them as baggage. All airlines now days have a ban on golf clubs being allowed on the plane. Due to what a set of clubs costs, you might want to leave them at home or get proper protection. If you are going to a golf resort or traveling to another great location, there is a great possibility that you will most likely be able to rent a set of clubs to use.

In addition to golf many people enjoy playing baseball. Like a set of clubs, bats are banned on the airplanes as well for obvious reasons. If you going to try and enjoy a game of baseball, on your next time off, you will most likely want to take necessary pre cautions to getting secure protection for your equipment . Even though bats are banned on planes, there are no rules of other items, many to be cleats, baseballs, tees and many others. For your own concern, you may want to protect these items in the same bag or bags as your other gear.

Oh and of course if you are planning on going on a hunting trip, on your own free time, you will always need to keep your gear in checked baggage. All guns, bows and the items that go along with them are not allowed on the planes at any time. If you try and go through security with these items you may be caught and or arrested or wait further questioning.

Other sporting gear that is illegal on board an aircraft may be hockey sticks/pucks pool cues, skis/ski poles and many others. Again, if you are worried about the safety of your gear then take measurable means to secure it. As stated above, there is some gear that you just can’t bring, but other rules are not so clear. You need to be aware of what you can bring and what you can’t bring on an air plane before your arrival at the airport.

A Look At Aviator Watches

29 Apr.
Posted by teahupoo in Air Travel | No Comments

Aviator watches or Pilot Watches are very similar to dive watches in that they are often worn by people who have no connection whatsoever to flying or being a pilot. Most of these watches are sold to people who simply like the way they look. While I have no problem with this, actually I love it since it earns me money; this article is geared more on what to look for in a functional aviator watch.

There are several different types of pilot watches so let’s take a look at some of them. The first are those issued or designed to be issued to actual pilots and their crews mainly from WWII through the Vietnam War. Some of these watchmakers include IWC, Benrus, and Longines. Most of these pilot watches were just basic 12/24 military timekeepers and did not feature the chronograph function. These watches are really not true pilot watches as a chronographic feature is really a necessity especially when flying a plane with only basic instrumentation.

Some of the current aviator watches on the market today such as those made by Blancpain, Breuget, Breitling, Longines and others do have an actual aviation heritage and utilize some basic design components in the dial, movement, or case that go back to the watches made specifically for aviators. Most still fall into the designer watch category and do not really function well as true pilot watches.

Now that we have covered a little of the history of aviator watches and talked about the pilot watches that are really not suitable for flying, let’s take a look at some of the watches that are actually chosen and used by pilots and others in the aviation industry.
Among these we will list vintage aviator watches and then current aviator watches.

Among the pilot watches considered to be vintage are the Longines Lindberg Hour Angle, named for Charles Lindberg, the Breitling Navitimer, Breitling Cosmonaute, and the Rolex GMT. The current versions of the Cosmonaute and the Rolex GMT are essentially the same as the vintage models. Some of the better makers of true aviation watches include Torgoen, Breitling, Omega, Citizen, and Seiko. Seiko is one of the most prolific of these watchmakers with a huge range of different models available.

Modern technology and increased instrumentation in aircraft has all but eliminated the need for a pilot to wear a watch but any good aviator will always have a good pilot’s watch as a backup.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Frequent Flyer Miles When Traveling

28 Apr.
Posted by teahupoo in Air Travel | No Comments

Frequent flier miles sound great in principle-travel with a certain airline and earn points that you can cash in later, or use a certain credit card to earn points without even traveling. What could be better than free airline ticket? Airlines, unfortunately, aren’t so keen on your sudden desire to fly for free. Their goal is to sell seats not give them away, no matter how much they try to entice you into earning frequent flier miles. By being aware of some simple tricks of the trade, you can not only increase the amount of flight points you earn but also stretch them as far as possible.

First, earn the maximum amount of points every time you fly by choosing a specific program and following all of their rules and regulations. Be aware of their promotions and partner companies. You could earn miles by buying flowers at a specific florist or staying at a particular hotel. Keep updated by reading their websites and newsletters for promotions. Certain techniques can also earn you more miles. Fore example, see if you can earn extra miles for business trips by paying for the flight with your own credit card and having your boss reimburse you. Or if your spouse flies less than you, he or she can use a free frequent-flier mile ticket while the paid ticket goes on your account, earning you more points faster. While you are actively earning miles, stay organized. Save receipts, and watch out for errors in your statements. Know how many miles you have and how many you need to qualify for free trips or other perks that come along with a certain status as a frequent flier. Finally, don’t waste your miles on cheap flights or by cashing them in on other purchases, such as magazine subscriptions or club memberships.

As wonderful as a promotion may seem, frequent flier miles are, essentially, cash, and you can bet that an airline wants to save itself money by having you spend your cash on something other than an airline ticket.

Do you figure that you’ll never fly frequently enough to earn enough miles to be useful? You can actually earn points without even flying by using a credit card that offers frequent flier miles based on the amount you charge every month. While these credit cards sounds like great deals, getting the most out of them can be tricky. Many cards that offer miles also come with a hefty annual fee, so be sure that the cards are worth the fees before you use them. For example, if a card charges fifty dollars annually, and it takes you four years to earn enough miles to purchase a ticket worth less than two hundred dollars, then your investment in the card did not save you any money. If you believe that you can receive worthwhile savings with a mileage credit card, then charge as much as you can-groceries, dinners, even monthly bills-but pay off your bill every month or you’ll be losing money on the interest charged. If you go to a restaurant with friends or family, have them pay you for their meal in cash and charge the bill on your credit card. Some restaurants will give you extra mileage when you pay with a specific mileage earning credit card, and some credit cards will give you extra mileage when you charge groceries and other items. Take advantage of these deals by checking your credit card’s mailings, email newsletters, and website.

Finally, you’ve spent years earning thousands of frequent flier miles on everything from your credit cards to your business trips out of town, and now your ready to cash them in and live the high life. The first way to get the best flight with the nicest upgrades or advantages possible from your frequent flier miles is by purchasing tickets as early as possible-as much as a year in advance. Also, try and schedule your flight for the middle of the week-Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday-rather than on Saturday or Sunday when more people are flying, and try to book midday flights, which are less popular than morning or early evening. Finally, call the airline rather than use the internet to book your flight. All of these methods are more likely to lead to you receiving the awards and deals that you want to get from your hard-earned frequent fliers.

The Problems With Heathrow Terminal 5

19 Apr.
Posted by webrepairservice in Air Travel | No Comments

Heathrow’s new Terminal 5 building has caused controversy since the plans to build it were first announced. It stirred mixed emotions with environmentalists and local residents who are against the increased noise, pollution and traffic that it is going to bring. However, others, especially those who participate in a lot of business travel every year, feel that an extra terminal building is a wise move on behalf of British Airways. The reason for this is because it is hoped that the extension will help to ease the pressure of the increasing number of travellers passing through Heathrow Airport every year.

Since Heathrow Terminal 5 opened on March 27 2008 British Airways have faced nothing but problems and criticism from holiday makers and those on business travel. Whilst it is clear that the airport is simply experiencing teething problems with its new addition, a lot of travellers have been left feeling angry.

One of the main problems has been with the baggage handling systems which has meant that luggage has had to be sorted manually. Not only did this entail long delays for those trying to check in but it also resulted in hundreds of people losing their luggage. No doubt this got holiday makers’ journey off to an upsetting staff and created major problems for those on business travel. However, BAA took full responsibility for the loss of anyone luggage and did everything possible to try and rectify the problem so that the airline could start to function as normal again.

The problems that Heathrow Terminal 5 had with their baggage systems resulted in dozens of flights being cancelled as well. It is thought that one of the main causes of all the problems the new terminal has faced is due to staff confusion. Many of the staff were unfamiliar with the building and systems they were using which no doubt added to the delays and inaccuracies that occurred.

Just when BAA thought that there couldn’t be any more problems for Heathrow Terminal 5, the recent snow led to more than 100 flights being cancelled. This affected travel plans for holiday makers and those on business travel who were left feeling stressed, upset and stranded. Although the bad weather is out of the control of anyone and flights were affected throughout the whole of Europe, this was hassle that staff could have done without after an already stressful week.

Although Heathrow is facing many problems regarding the opening of Terminal 5 they hope to have everything up and running as planned very shortly. This means that holiday makers and those on business travel can continue with their journeys quickly and stress free.

The Different Types Of Helicopters

17 Apr.
Posted by webrepairservice in Air Travel | No Comments

Not many people know much about helicopters, how they work and the different kinds that you get. They can be used for various different things from business travel and leisure travel to buying a helicopter charter as a gift for someone. Although you do not need to know anything about helicopters to do this, it may help you make your decision when it comes to choosing a helicopter.

Just as with pretty much everything, helicopters generally fit into certain classifications. There are three main types which include light piston - engine types, light turbine helicopters and twin engine helicopters. The type of helicopter used may affect your helicopter charter because it could make it faster or more expensive.

The light piston - engine types have two or three sears, the initial costs are low and has speeds from 80 - 110 miles per hour. This means that you can only go on a helicopter charter with one other person but it is likely to be cheaper than other types of aircraft because its running costs are quite low.

Light turbine helicopters are very popular throughout the world. One type, The Jet Ranger is the most popular turbine helicopter and is suitable for a helicopter charter. There are many reasons why this aircraft is so popular but many people simply like the way it looks and the fact that they tend to be very quick. This is particular beneficial to any businesses who choose to travel this way because time is money and therefore the faster you get somewhere, the less money you are using.

Twin engine helicopters are very different to those which have been previously mentioned. The price bracket alone increases significantly but it is important to remember that you definitely get what you pay for. Not only do you get a faster machine, but it has also designed to be a lot safer. This means that you can travel to destinations that you can’t do on the other types of helicopters. For example, you could go on a helicopter charter to the other side of the country rather than just around where you are close to.

Helicopters can seem like a daunting topic because there isn’t as much about them in the media as something such as cars. However, it is easy to get the basic information through books and on the internet. As well as this any company that sells them or offers helicopter charters will be more than happy to answer any questions.

It’s Better Up Here Than Ever Before

In an age where both airplanes and luxury ships are consistently boasting, ‘bigger and better,’ it’s refreshing to see things that aren’t so concentrated on massive commercial growth and impersonal service. Regional airports are perhaps the greatest method of travel left for those desiring peace and a more efficient solution for their travel needs.

Many people think of major airports and cringe at the thoughts of lines requiring hours to get through, thousands of people going in different directions at once, constant worries of baggage and claim issues, and confusing parking policies. Yet, there is one way to fly that completely removes all these worries at the same time: the regional airport.

These smaller facilities are typically just as reliable as the major commercial airlines, but with many advantages. The fares are much more affordable and the lines are far shorter. Because these airlines serve fewer passengers, you will reach your destination faster and with less hassle. You are also less likely to be held for long periods of time for taking food onboard with you. Since smaller planes are used, more flights are safely allowed, and you are less likely to be marooned due to the common problems aboard large airlines.

The ease of parking in regional airports is another convenience many passengers enjoy. The lots are smaller and more organized, and it isn’t common to literally lose your vehicle amid hundreds or thousands of others. Even large regional airports offer a better experience when it comes to automobile storage.

Regional airports offer services that will take you into large cities, but also offer options of bypassing more urban areas when the final destination is on the outskirts of a major metropolitan area. These airports use smaller planes, allowing greater access to additional facilities, regardless of where you travel. Many locations are limited to regional airports, and if you choose a major line, you will need to either board a second, smaller airplane to reach your destination or drive a considerable distance.

Regional airports today are as connected as major airlines through technology. Weather, security information and all other relevant details are available through regional airports, just as with major airlines.

For a fine example of the regional possibilities for travelers, take the beautiful island of Tenerife. This is one of the Canary Islands and offers lush, tropical beauty for all visitors. The Los Rodeos Airport, or Tenerife North Airport, is a wonderful example of how these smaller facilities can take you to new and exotic locations.

The Tenerife North Airport is one of two on the island of Tenerife and will take you safely and expediently to your destination. Tenerife is a paradise of the Canary Islands and is often referred to as, ‘Paradise Island.’

Cesar Manrique, a renowned artist, designed a series of seawater pools for everyone to enjoy. Manrique designed his architecture around the natural vegetation of the island and created a magnificent living work of art. Tenerife also offers botanical gardens and a gorgeous view of Teide Volcano.

Using a regional airport does not mean you are missing out on any destination; it only means you are expanding the potential of your travels to reach far more exotic locations.

Birmingham Airport Passenger Numbers Soar

16 Apr.
Posted by webrepairservice in Air Travel | No Comments

Although airports around the UK have received much criticism over recent years because they continue to expand and increase flight numbers, they constantly experience more and more passengers passing through their doors every year.

This is very much the case for Birmingham International Airport after they dealt with over one million passengers this summer. The airport handled a total of 1,005,484 people in its two terminals which is an increase of 2.2 percent from August last year. It was also the first time it has broken the million passenger milestone since September 2005. This goes to show that although the travel industry has faced many challenges over the last two years, a positive trend is starting to emerge which shows people are trusting the industry again.

It is likely that the increase in the number of passenger numbers has been because of the terrible summer the UK has experienced. This is further fuelled by the fact that Birmingham has introduced several new routes and airlines are fighting to provide the cheapest flights in a bid to beat off the competition.

Although the rise in passenger numbers is good for airports and airlines, it’s bad news for those who are protesting against the expansion of airports in the UK. More passengers equal more flights and a greater demand for Birmingham Airport parking. If there is to be an increase of these things it means that there will be more flights, more cars travelling to and from the airport and more Birmingham Airport parking facilities.

One of the groups is BANG (Birmingham Airport anti - Noise Group) are fighting particularly hard because their members are affected by the noise produced by the airport on a daily basis.

Expansions also raise many issues about pollution, noise and traffic that people have been fighting about for years. Environmentalists and local residents don’t want the extra traffic around where they live and are concerned about the impact that more flights and cars are going to have on the environment. Local residents are well aware that living close to an airport reduced the value of your home. However, they are worried that more flights, cars and noise are going to further reduce the value of their homes.

However, despite campaigners’ efforts, there is obviously a demand for more flights and Birmingham Airport parking as the number of passengers is rising steadily. As a result, airports such as Birmingham are only trying to meet demands when they increase the number of flights and Birmingham Airport parking facilities that they are providing.

Gatwick Angers Motorcyclists

16 Apr.
Posted by webrepairservice in Air Travel | No Comments

New Gatwick parking changes that came into effect on the 1st August angered many motorcyclists around the country. For many years the airport has offered free parking to cyclists in the short stay car park but following the number of bikes that had been parked in car bays they made the decision to start charging them as they charge for cars.

The British Motorcyclists Foundation and Motorcycle parking fought hard to try and get the airport to revert back to their old ways. They have had a semi - victory as motorcyclists can enjoy Gatwick parking for free once again. However, this is only a temporary measure for the summer months and when the situation will be reviewed again.

The car park in question that has caused such uproar is the NCP short stay car park at the airport. They have been keen to stress that they have never felt that motorcycles have been a problem and had nothing to do with the decision. They will continue to provide Gatwick parking as normal now that the problem has been temporarily rectified.

There was a lot of controversy after there was confusion as to exactly why there were changes to Gatwick parking facilities. The parking manager said that they were bringing their parking charges in line with what other airports around the country are charging but this was found to be untrue and was in fact a unilateral decision by the Gatwick parking manager.

There were several different reasons why the British Motorcyclists Federation and Motorcycle parking were so upset with the Gatwick parking changes. Firstly, they felt that given the current debate surrounding the environment and airports around the United Kingdom at the moment, that Gatwick should be supporting more environmentally friendly ways of travelling. They say that a motorcycle is more green than a car and by charging for cyclists to park this is going to put them off using this method to travel to and from airports.

Secondly, they didn’t feel that the situation was handled very well and claim that they first anyone knew about it was when motorcyclists were told to pay on exit. Again, everyone feels that the situation could have been handled better and that some notice had been given.

The airport have confirmed that Gatwick parking for cyclists will be free until the situation has been reviewed after the busy summer period.
