The vinyl USB device saw thousands of fans of vinyl able to rejuvenate their old record collection and take their favourite old tunes from the dark ages to the new era.

This meant that they could enjoy their vinyl in mp3 format on their portable devices. The success of this device has seen a number of similar devices pushed into development. The latest example of these developments is the ION VCR 2 to PC Video Converter which lets you convert your videos to a format that can be used on the computer. This means that you can convert your old video films onto DVD and play them on your DVD player.

This device can enable an individual to rediscover films and videos that might have been otherwise neglected. You can pull your collection out of the loft or garage and convert them into a format that can be used on your DVD player or on your computer. This could even mean that your entire film collection could be recorded onto a single hard drive.

Not only is this likely to save you a considerable amount of space but it will also mean that you can be nostalgic about the films that you used to watch. The device works on the simple premise that the VHS player is connected to a computer using a USB connection. This means that the device can play straight into the computer. The USB video deck is delivered with software that enables you to turn these videos into files that you can work with.

The software will have a system in which you can cut up the films into sections that suit you or even work to clear up sound quality and indeed enhance your films.

This software is designed so that people with limited experience using computers or editing software can still benefit and use the software effectively. This means that even for those people that don’t use computers often the system is still very easy to use.

Once you have managed to get used to the method of saving records onto the computer (which won’t take long to master) you will be able to watch them in digital format or store them securely on your hard drive. This means that you can finally rid yourself of your cumbersome video tape collection without ever having to worry about if you want to watch one of them again.

The device also has the capacity to allow you to connect a video recorder and convert the video footage that you have connected into the port into a digital form and with a wide range of editing software packages available this could help you become the director of your own films. The device will also make it much easier for you to transport these videos onto a portable device such as an iPod. This could mean that you can show all of your friends that special video that you created.

How Lifestyle Change When The Technology Change

In a world powered by technology, driven by bottom lines, and information-accessible world-wide, it’s a wonder we’re not all robots. The temptation to so fully digitize oneself is great. When was the last time you bought a stamp or sent a personal letter to a friend? We send e-cards and gift cards instead, and how much do we even spend communicating one-on-one? It’s in this atmosphere of wireless capability that even home automation becomes important, or seems to.

I can remember when letter-writing was an art form and those who were good at it seemed to be building libraries of goodwill for themselves. Everyone liked to get a letter in the mail; I think we still do.

When I moved to Toronto, the big thing was plasma big-screen TV’s. We had to hire a Toronto TV installation crew to put ours in because one couldn’t live without it, could they? We have to automate every aspect of our homes these days or we just can interface with others. Goodness, even the language has changed! And it’s everywhere! When the kids in Grade 3 know more techno-terms than grammatical ones and can fly your computer around the room compared to you, you’re in trouble.

Now, the Toronto TV installation crew that we hired to our install was strictly a company that dealt with TV installation nothing else. But they still had some opinions, and good ones, on how to automate our home more. Like we needed this! It seems that in Toronto, TV installation crews are versed in these things because they like to automate their own places to the max. I suppose that they see new and cool stuff all the time and want to be new and cool themselves. They sure were open about where we could (and because we could, we certainly should) make changes and upgrades.

For example, no one turned knobs anymore. There were about a dozen areas where the knobs on things were disparaged and new digital systems described as better, more efficient. Because they were so enthusiastic, I didn’t want to ask our Toronto TV installation crew whether these handy gizmos were then more prone to breaking or just quitting. I didn’t want to dampen their pioneer spirit. Toronto is a town that invites change and yet remains true to its history. These guys were just a cultural phenomenon and I had to give them credit for their broad knowledge base.

Being from Toronto, our TV installation crew was notably down-to-earth. I thanked them for their advice and they gave shrugs and the foreman said, Hey, take it or not this is your home. I thought that classy.

And I’m keeping my knobs, guys. Sorry

Greatest Invention from the Gadget Generation

27 Jun.

It’s always an interesting conversation to have between generations. The greatest invention of my grandparents generation would probably be the car. My parents generation might suggest the television. So what is the greatest invention of my generation? I’ve had a look at my top ten.

Number one is the Internet. Life just wouldn’t be the same without the World Wide Web. The internet provides a wealth of knowledge at our fingertips, from finding out train times via Google or purchasing goods on Ebay. The latest explosion of social networking sites helps people keep in touch and interact without leaving the house.

Number two is mobile technology. Even during my generation the mobile phone has drastically evolved. I remember my first mobile phone was a monstrous Bosch orange brick. Yet, it allowed extra freedom as i no longer i had to ensure i carried 20p to use the phone to see if i could get a lift home at the end of the day.

Apple’s i-phone has set the benchmark for new mobile technology. They are no longer mobile phones, a combination of a phone, video camera, digital camera, music player and computer, with full access to the internet.

Number three is the utilisation of Chip and PIN. Chip and PIN technology has allowed us to use our bank card to pay for everything, instead of fumbling around for coins in my wallet. There is no longer a need to send a cheque in the post, as payments are accepted online using your card.

I believe this simple technology will continue to evolve and cheques will be the first form of payment that could become redundant. Yet, if all payments can be made on your card, is there any need for money?

Number four is the use of satellite navigation systems. Satellite navigation allows drivers to navigate the globe without the need for a map. They allow users to know exactly where they are, where they need to go and, most importantly, how to get there.

Coming in at number five is virtual reality gaming and the Wii generation. Gaming has also drastically evolved during my lifetime. It was the original Nintendo Entertainment System that got me hooked, with Mario and other unforgettable classics. Sega and Nintendo were overshadowed by the arrival of Sony’s Playstation and Playsation II, which also played DVD’s and CD’s.

While Sony’s Playstation and Microsoft’s Xbox have been battling out to create more realistic graphics and gameplay, Nintendo has taken a step back and created the Wii and DS, designed purely to entertain. These revolutionary consoles provide a much more interactive experience that can be played by anyone. Genius!

My number six is the more recent development of Sky Plus. Sky have constantly evolved their technology and the Sky Plus technology allows viewers to watch and record at the same time, as well as setting up a ’series link’ so that you never miss your favourite episodes. Entertainment at your fingertips, but when you want it!

In at number seven is the iPod and iTunes. From the original Sony cassette Walkman, CD players and Mini Disc players to the iPod. All your music is stored and ready to play in one place. Itunes allows you to add all the latest tracks, and also radio shows via the create of podcasts.

Number eight is the microwave. I think the majority of houses all now have a microwave oven. I believe it’s an invention that has been taken for granted. A simple way to cook ready meals, re-heat food or defrosting meat before cooking. Kitchen life would be alot tougher without it.

My ninth place gadget is the development of digital cameras. Digital cameras have allowed us to take a perfect picture, possible to view and delete pictures before deciding whether to print them. So effective when comparing them to its predecessors.

For my tenth and final gadget i have decided to take a look to the future. Maybe in fifty years time petrol cars will be a thing of the past and they will have been replaced by electric or battery powered cars. Many companies are testing hybrid vehicles that utilise both electric motors and other types of engine.

One of the choices you have is what kind of digital playback service for system you want to use for your home theater system. The most common type of digital playback is still the DVD player. Most TV days are currently format to play one or more surround sound formats, depending on the set of options offered on your DVD.

Many DVD is also likely to manipulate other aspects of your home viewing experience. For instance, many DVD is allow you to choose whether you would like to watch the movie in its original aspect ratio, or would prefer to view the movie so that it fits your television screen. For instance, many DVD is allow you to choose between watching a movie in the traditional wide-screen format so that you don’t lose any of what you would normally see at the movie theater. The second choice is to watch the movie in full screen format.

This means that you watched the movie in a format that has been specifically created for your television screen. In general, the DVD player is still considered very versatile and easy on the eyes. Even with new formats coming out all the time, for now the DVD still reigns supreme in the world of home theater systems.

The VCR continues to prove a viable option

Although the VCR has definitely seen better days, there are still many reasons why you may want to consider making the VCR a part of your home theater system. First, you may already have a large collection of VHS tapes that you would like to continue to view. Also, there are some shows and movies that have yet to be released on DVD, but which you may find on the VHS format. Of course, a VCR is still the most inexpensive way to record programs off of television. If you happen to have a quality high-definition VCR record disposal, you may want to stick with it for a little while longer.

Choosing the right digital video recorder for your home theater system

A home digital recorder, also known as a DVR, is kind of like the digital version of the VCR. A Digital video recorder can’t store information on its hard drive. When you connect to a digital video recorder to your home theater system and television, all the information is sent to the hard drive and then transmitted to your television a few seconds later.

There are many advantages to having a digital video recorder as part of your home theater system. First, it allows you to store an incredible amount of information on the hard drives. Second, it allows you to watch broadcast television and your own pace. You can pause and rewind shows with the push of a button. Most digital video recorders to not provide the programming they would get from something like a TiVo.

Many digital video recorders must be connected to a phone line, as well as a video store such as a cable outlet or a satellite dish. Digital video recorders are a good choice for people who want to record and watch television programs on their own viewing schedule.

Car Stereo Systems Supporting New Audio Formats

16 Jun.
Posted by vgevge in Gadgets and Gizmos | No Comments

Car stereos are the newest addition in the world of stereos. Previously there were only home stereos. Home stereos first emerged in the 1930s. But in the 1950s, home stereos started becoming affordable for the people. But the 21st century saw the emergence of car stereos. With the help of new technologies, the 21st century enabled car stereo systems supporting new audio formats.

There are various new formats available for car stereos now. In this article, we will discuss about all these new audio formats.

Previously, a car used to have just one radio in its dashboard and two speakers in the front doors. But now the times have changed. Today the technology has advanced so much that car stereos are competitively as good as home stereos.

Dolby sound

Dolby sound is a brilliant audio format used by car stereos. Dolby sound actually influences the audio signal and reduces background hiss or noise prevalent in low quality systems. This can be effective for tape cassettes, because of the background hiss prevalent in tape players.

Surround sound

Surround sound is actually an effect that makes the listener feel that the sound is coming from almost every direction. Gone are those days when sound used to come from only left and right speakers. Now, sounds come from left, right, center, up, down, almost from every direction.

DSP

The full form of DSP is Digital Signal Processing. DSP creates a special kind of effect, which is called psycho acoustic effect. This special effect is created by delaying and influencing the audio signals. This effect actually creates an extra sound that does not exist originally. Actually the delays give birth to a series of echoes. All of them are pre-programmed. And these echoes create the special effect. Many models contain different settings, like, jazz club, stadium, concert hall etc.

MP3

MP3 is one of the most acclaimed audio formats nowadays. Previously MP3 was made only for home stereos. But now car stereos also contain this format. MP3 is a special format that allows the CD to hold a huge number of titles/songs. If you have got this in your car, then you can compress plenty of music or other data into one CD and you will be able to play them in your car stereo.

Sometimes, the MP3 format harms the quality of sound due to the compression. But if this small drawback can be excused, then MP3 can help you in many ways. The best thing about this is it saves a lot of space. Previously, you would’ve had to carry plenty of CDs in your car. But now, you can listen to all of your favorite songs by playing just one CD.

There are some modification of the MP3 format that have occurred recently. Now, car stereos consist of a small computer, which is capable of reading the MP3 format. And this computer does not need any MP3 CD. The data can be loaded onto this computer directly from the home PC. It contains a portable hard drive, through which this job can be done. The hard drive has to be attached via the USB port.

RDS

RDS or Radio Data System is a highly equipped car radio set up. It allows you to listen to all the radio stations in your city. It also offers some special features. If you want to listen to any special kind of song, say country song, then you can choose the category and the radio will find the particular station that plays that kind of song. You can even choose traffic updates. If you save TA or TRAF, then the radio will automatically shift to the channel in the time of traffic updates.

USB Pen Drives or Pen Drives are a removable external device that is used for transferring data from one PC to another PC.

Remember the day when you had to depend on a floppy disk or CD to store data and transfer it to another PC? It was not only disadvantageous but also restricted to the presence of a floppy disk or CD driver in the PCs. The process of burning content into the CDs or copying the data unto the floppy diskettes was a pain in the neck. Then again, it was an excruciatingly time consuming process as well. Not to mention about the little storage space that was never enough for the users to copy enough data. So they had to use multiple CDs or floppy diskettes to copy a large amount of content.
